Living with your thoughts that seem to never stop can be absolutely draining and have an impact on your daily functioning. These thoughts can make you feel sluggish and tired, anxious, angry and maybe even fearful depending on your situation(s). Sometimes it's so overwhelming that you just want to give up because you feel like your life is spinning in a million directions. Well, you are not alone, even if it feels like you are. Support is always near.
One tool to tackle overthinking is to analyze your thoughts and core beliefs, determine what is factual about them and see if you even resonate with your thoughts, and then establish ways you can redirect the programming in your mind. Subconscious programming began when we were young adolescents and we do not realize how those thoughts and conditions have shaped us throughout our life spans positively and negatively. The good part is that there are ways to create new neural pathways in our brains just by thinking positive thoughts which then calms our central and parasympathetic nervous systems. Why do we want these systems fully functional? Well, when we intentionally choose a positive response, we are more likely to respond that way when other situations arise. If we always respond in a negative manner, the more likely we are to repeat this same patten. You see where I am going with this. Our bodies and minds operate more efficiently when we are in a restful state of being verses a fight or flight state. We think clearer, make better decision, our hearts are beating at a normal rate, and we feel better overall.
Thankfully, we have the power within to make these changes one step at a time. Renewal of mind and awareness are key in starting a new journey and every day we are given a new start and that begins with practicing self-care/love such as saying positive affirmations to ourselves, physical exercise, deep breathing, changing your diet, journaling, having a positive social support, prayer time, meditation, etc. It does not have to be complicated, All you have to do is pick a place to start and work from there. Choose what is best for you so you can begin to create a life that is meaningful to you and others around you.
